Bio:

Making the decision to enter psychotherapy can be stressful. Allow me to join and help you. I believe people are born to thrive. However, there are times our emotional suffering (stress, anger, depression, or anxiety) make us feel stuck. Just like the warning signs on the dashboard, our emotions inform us when there are things in life need our attention. It can be things within ourselves (such as, self-concept, attitudes, values and goals) or things happened to us (such as, stressors from home or school/work, trauma or loss). My work is to give attention to where it is needed.

I am a bi-lingual, bi-cultural (Chinese and American) psychologist who is experienced in working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and/or marginalized identities. Our work will focus on your immediate or longstanding challenges by (1) expanding understanding about yourself and the world and (2) developing ideas/strategies for you to regain control and freedom.

Besides providing individual psychotherapy, I also provide couples and family therapy to work with the individuals’ immediate social system to cope with the presenting problems. In addition, I am experienced in providing psychotherapy for emotional problems related to cultural, language, or identity adjustment difficulties in cultural minority communities. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dr. Azor Hui is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in medical/health psychology. She conducts psychological assessments and provides consultation and/or behavioral intervention for those with a variety of physical health conditions, including, but not limited to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, chronic pain, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and GI diseases. Dr. Hui is experienced in helping individuals and their families change their lifestyle behaviors and manage psycho-social factors, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship problems that may affect their physical health outcomes. She has specifically helped many to change their smoking habits and substance abuse and improve their stress management, diet, physical activities, and sleep. Dr. Hui is passionate about helping others achieve holistic physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. She is particularly interested in working with individuals with medical/behavioral co-morbidities who desire to maximize their functioning and quality of life.

Dr. Hui is originally from Hong Kong, China. She completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She came to the United States in 1999 for graduate studies, and she earned a MS degree in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2002. In 2009, Dr. Hui obtained her PhD in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During her doctoral training, Dr. Hui focused on both Medical/Clinical Psychology and Lifespan Developmental Psychology. She simultaneously earned a MSPH degree, with a concentration in Health Care Organization and Policy in 2008 as well.

After obtaining her PhD in 2009, Dr. Hui continued her research training in a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). During that time, she was heavily involved in clinical research in smoking cessation among hospitalized patients. She later developed an interest in health promotion by changing lifestyle behaviors among at-risk individuals to better prevent and manage chronic diseases among community populations. In September of 2011, Dr. Hui moved to Philadelphia to join Fox Chase Cancer Center in their Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program. Since 2015, Dr. Hui has been working in clinical care for patients with medical/behavioral comorbidities in both medical and community settings.

Dr Hui is fluent in the languages of Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and English, and she welcomes working with Chinese residents in the US with a variety of presenting issues, including depression and anxiety. Her approach to therapy is eclectic, using elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, insight-oriented therapy, spirituality and family systems. She also received training in Biblical Counseling in 2017-18, so she welcomes working with individuals who prefer to receive psychotherapy within a Protestant Christian beliefs system. On the other hand, Dr. Hui is less experienced in working with individuals who struggle with sexual orientation or gender identity issues.
